My practice focuses on venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, company formations, and other transactional matters, representing investors, start-ups, and founders.

I work with a select group of clients so that I can provide each one with highly personalized attention. New engagements are primarily developed through referrals from existing clients and trusted professional colleagues.

Prior to founding the Law Office of Joseph Helmers in August 2026, I spent two decades practicing in the same focus areas at another Menlo Park law firm, first as an associate and later as a partner. Earlier, I was an associate advising on cross-border transactions in the Palo Alto and Hong Kong offices of another firm.
